These past couple years have been, to put it lightly, rough. Everyone, from students to staff, are burnt out and looking for an escape. As a senior, I come to school every day grasping at anything to look forward to. In my need to be optimistic in regards to the unknown, I have come up with a top 5 list of things I’m looking forward to this year!

1. Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving is arguably the best holiday since there are no obligations. You wake up, watch the Thanksgiving Day Parade in your pajamas and eat good food. Nothing cures the soul like mashed potatoes and gravy.

2. Adele’s new album. Name a bad Adele song…you can’t. That woman is so talented and I cannot wait to drive around and listen to her sing about heartbreak. It makes me feel something.

3. The first snow. The pure joy of watching the white fall from the clouds onto the tree tops is euphoric for me. Nothing is more nostalgic than waking up and realizing that it is a snow day. I’m looking forward to feeling that feeling one more time before I graduate.

4. Layering. I love layering clothes. Nothing looks better than a good sweater or a good turtleneck. Add a jacket to a normal outfit and it becomes even better! All summer I look forward to the cold winter so I can regain some semblance of a fashion sense.

5. The first bloom of the flowers in spring. After a cold winter, the first bloom is a rebirth of spirits. When no one was paying attention to it, it begins to grow and change from a seed to a beautiful floret, just like personal growth. When no one is looking, we slowly begin to become the people we strive to be. There is no correct time for a flower to bloom, like how we cannot rush our personal development. We must let the season take its course. I cannot wait to see, dear reader, how much you grow: like a flower blossoming in the spring.
